Q. What is all this about exactly? 

A. We have re-founded the The Holy Roman Empire as a Legacy Nation and Historical Revival, working to rebuild and maintain the essence of the Empire as far as is practically and lawfully possible today. Our purpose is to continue the Holy Roman Empire's ancient purpose of renewing Western Civilization. We work to Restore the Spirit of the Western World through a variety of positive cultural activities and spiritual work. We believe that by these means the Holy Roman Empire can help Civilization rediscover its heart and soul once again as it did in the ancient world.

Q. So is this some sort of right-wing, reactionary or extremist thing?

A. No, we're simply people interested in the best aspects of Holy Roman Empire history, civilization and spirituality. We're open to all people from all races, creeds, nations, orientations and religions. We explore this history and culture with genuinely positive intent and by lawful and harmless means.  

Q. What do you mean by "Legacy Nation?"

A. We are working to continue Legacy of the Holy Roman Empire by actively rebuilding and maintaining its structure, spirit, culture and traditions. We are breathing new life into ancient form; existing as a worldwide community, nation model and cultural restoration. 

Q. You seriously believe that "cultural activities and spiritual practices" can make a difference in the world today? 

A. Most people attempt to change the world through the usual physical political and social means. They become involved in bitter partisan politics, intolerant dogmatic religions, and enraged social movements. This usually achieves little but the continuation of bizarre cycles of anger, hatred, chaos and violence.  We have no desire to waste effort with more of the same.  Instead we look to the foundation of the Western World and renew its energies as positive individuals exploring ancient form. 

Q. The Holy Roman Empire was founded through/by the Catholic Church. Is this a Catholic based organization?

A. While this was true in the ancient world the Church itself has moved on from many of its own traditions. Because of this modern Catholicism cannot provide the same foundation today. We remain friendly to the Church but now also must rely on History, Tradition, Inner Spirituality to provide continuity and meaning.

Q. Isn't this just silliness? After all, Voltaire said "The Holy Roman Empire was neither Holy, Roman, or an Empire."

A. While that quote was clever and pretty funny, it was mean-spirited and simply untrue. The Holy Roman Empire, or Sacrum Imperium Romanum was based on Spiritual and Sacred intent, Roman culture and tradition, and did in fact gather separate kingdoms into Empire. It gave meaning and new hope to a world in chaos, gathered people together, and gave new life to civilization thought stolen and forever lost. It helped to bring the West out of dark times and restore hope again. We're proud to follow its original intent and continue this legacy. 

Q. So what can I do with all this personally?

A. We invite you to bring the Holy Roman Empire back to life through helping continue its existence and works. We invite you to renew meaning through exploring ancient history, tradition and culture, and to renew spirituality through personal connection to the divine. We invite you to bring sacredness back to the world  as civilization was renewed from the time of Charlemagne onwards. None of us have to live in a world where the past is abandoned and the future left without deep meaning.

Q. What does the "Mysterium" do, and do I need to participate in it?

A. The "Mysterium" seeks to bring Sacredness into the world and to make it Holy by bringing positive spirit to physical places. Consider it religion, ancient Mysteries and world Alchemy,  brought together to improve the world around us. Just as the Church blessed places, so do we consecrate what we can.We invite all to participate in the works of the Mysterium, but this participation is not mandatory for Citizenship.

Q. What is the "Commandery", and do I need to participate in it?

A. The Commandery is a renewal of ancient Knighthood, working to guard Light and Civilization and resist chaos and darkness. It exists as both an order of martial tradition and chivalry, and a spiritual order working to manifest light through Inner disciplines.  Citizens are invited to participate in this active spiritual work but may be a Citizen without participating.

Q. Does this cost anything?

A. No, we're not here for your money. Citizenship and participation is free.
